First Place. :]

Yep, it's confirmed. My blog entry "blasphemous thinking" won first place in the prose section of my school's Creative Arts Awards Contest.
I had to read a piece of it in front of easily 80 parents with their kids, and others who participated in the contest. It was kind of awkward, because I live in an EXTREMELY Christian dominant city, so telling them I thought their god was equivalent to the Easter bunny resulted in a few glares.
Weirdly enough, when I said that sentence, someone cheered and clapped a little. Haha. I had to laugh a little bit and then continue. My whole face was red hot, and I could feel my voice shaking, but apparently no one could tell (thank god.) Afterward, some people gave me standing ovations. (none of the other winners got that) It was pretty damn awesome!

My blog entry won a writing contest!!!

The blog entry "Blasphemous Thinking," may have one first place or best in division in my school's creative arts contest. They emailed me saying that one of the pieces I turned in placed in their competition, though they wouldn't say what place or which piece. They did say, though, that IF I happened to have won first or best in division that I had to prepare a section of my writing to read aloud. So I emailed back asking, just in case I had won, how short it had to be and if I should bring my own copy. The lady emailed back saying that I should print out a section that encapsulates my writing onto a large notecard and then she quoted my "blasphemous thinking" essay!!! She said and I quote: "I feel the paragraph that begins with “I finally came to the conclusion that life is supposed to be enjoyed”….would be the best choice.

What do you think?"

I practically went dancing around the house. Actually, I did pretty much. I definitely pranced and squealed. Why else would she pick a quote for me to start from, unless I won first or best in division!! And it was my essay!!! It wasn't my poem (I entered Tragic Hero, figuring that it won that other contest, it would be helpful in this one too) which I was glad because although the story's touching and all, it's not exactly my favorite piece. I've never EVER been commended for an essay before, or really any of my writing. Not officially anyway. And it makes me realize that maybe I do have a chance at this writing gig after all. I'm soooo freaking excited for MARCH 22nd. It's the award ceremony. Wish me luck!

*Dreamy Sigh* happy happy happy

Don't pinch me. If I'm dreaming, I don't want to wake up.... and if this is reality then I don't want to be pinched. :]

I had one of the best days ever yesterday, and today my boyfriend's going to hang out with me and take me out on a date to make up for the fact that Valentine's Day we didn't really see each other. Soooo excited. :)

Here's a quote from one of my favorite songs: Hazy by Rosi Golan-
"What if I fall and hurt myself
Would you know how to fix me?
What if I went and lost myself
Would you know where to find me?
If I forgot who I am,
Would you please remind me?
Oh, cause without you things go hazy"

That fits me and my love. [:

Ode to my Mirror & My Love Michael

Sometimes I find solace in looking at myself in the mirror. It’s not anything to do with vanity; it’s just the one solid part of my life that I know the best and is the least confusing. I wouldn’t know, but I guess it would be similar to looking at a fellow soldier in the midst of a battle. You know that someone out there is just as scared shitless as you are… except with me, it’s just an illusion. At least I have an illusion.

Another reason that I’m so comforted with my face is that I KNOW my face. I know every detail. I know the small, pointed French nose. I know the green eyes that change from teal to green to aqua. I know the eyebrows that are darker than my hair and sometimes have a few strays that need to be tweezed. I know the salmon pink colored mouth that sometimes has a plump lower lip or else is just a medium size. I know the mole on the left side of my chin; I call it my beauty mark. I know all the freckles that connect it all. I know my face.

The only other image in the mirror that would put me at just as much ease is my love Michael. He’s the fellow soldier hiding with me behind the bunker. The one who has my back always, and I have his. I KNOW his face. I know the slightly hooked nose. I know the beautiful green eyes with large hints of blue surrounded by long curly lashes. I know the perfectly not-too-thick not-too-thin eyebrows that he has that are the perfect size for a guy. I know the dark pink plump pillow lips that frame a perfect, adorable smile. I know the dark chocolate color of his soft, silky hair that falls across his forehead, and often into his eyes. I know his milky white skin that connects it all. I know his face.

Whenever I am alone in the world, or seemingly so, I think of him and remind myself that I’m only physically alone at the moment. He is always there for me. He always knows when to hold me tight, stroke my hair, and kiss the top of my head. He always knows what to say that will help me realize how lucky I am and he tells me how lucky he is to have me. Without him, I’d be lost wandering around in No Man’s Land, with no fellow soldier to pull me out of harms way and chastise me for being an idiot. Without him, I don’t even think my familiar reflection will be enough to comfort me. I’d forever wander the earth like a chicken with its head cut off. I’d constantly be dating only 2nd bests, or worse. I’d constantly be “settling” instead of having exactly whom I want, and whom I should be with. I’d be nowhere I want to be.

I WON FIRST PLACE IN A POETRY CONTEST!!!

Here's the poem that I entered. I hope you like it. :] It's called Tragic Hero:

This is the little girl
Who had innocent dreams
Till a boy flipped her world
And she's never been the same

Eyes wide open
but filled with tears
Cheeks stained with rains
From the many years
That never came

She grew up too fast
And she can't go back
But she wants to so bad

She is a tragic hero
But her story's not done yet

What should be so simple
Who should be so naive
Is so complicated
And her knowledge runs so deep

She tries to forget
She tries to write it out
She tries to keep it in
She tries to scream and shout

But nothing ever works
There is no therapy
She's shriveling to nothing
With nothing to impede

She's a tragic hero
And her story's not done yet

She's holding it in again
She can't say anything
If she moves at all
Something will go wrong
If she doesn't move
She won't be able to move on

Her voice is lost
But comes back with a bite
And here we are again
In this redundant fight
But you know
You always know
You're right

I'm a tragic hero
and my story's not done yet

Make me
To break me
Use me
As you always do
And leave me here
Without a clue

This is the little girl
Who had innocent dreams
Till a boy flipped her world
And she's never been the same

Blasphemous Thinking

I absolutely despise the smell of sawdust. It makes my stomach churn as though I swallowed cleaning supplies. If it weren’t for the smell of sawdust, though, this place would be peaceful and serene. The plants around me are dead or dying but the green, golden yellow, tan and brown in comparison to the grey blue sky is rather breathtaking. To my right, there are houses that look straight out of a neighborhood near a port, which they are. They’re tan, grey, white and dusty blue. Behind the dusty blue house is the top of a gigantic cross that is about twenty feet high and a cream color. Right behind the cross are dark ominous looking clouds.

If I were religious, I’d say that God would be the shining beacon when the darkness is overbearing, but I’m not. Thus, I feel it is more a symbol that being in a religion makes life dark and depressing. I mean, think about it. On Earth, you are an imperfect being that is not worthy of the all-powerful and flawless god. All of your triumphs belong to God’s handiwork, while all of your mistakes belong to your handiwork. You live through life, which to some people is purgatory: you are on Earth and you prove yourself worthy of either Heaven or Hell.

All there is for those who are religious to look forward to would be dying so that you can be with God again. To me, that makes life to me seem dark and horrible. You compare everything on Earth to the Paradise that you can only enter if you’ve been completely bored and miserable through life and die by natural causes. What kind of life is that?

I prefer living a life where I can be proud of what I do, because it is I who has committed the laudable deed. I prefer living a life where what I look forward to is moments when I’m alive, rather than the lifetime hereafter.

Two little girls behind me are playing games with their father. They’re about three or four years old. One of the girls wins, and thus becomes Simon. She begins to shout commands:

“SHIMON STEAD TOUCH YOU… UH POCKET… SIMON SAYS TOUCH YOU WHOLE FAYSH!”

Their little giggles fill the air like the most adorable sounding bells tinkling in joy. It just reminds me further of why I prefer to enjoy what I have now, rather than performing the tasks of a plan given to me by some invisible, demanding, egotistical creature in the sky, so as to join him in his so-called Paradise.

As John Lennon said,

Imagine there's no Heaven

It's easy if you try

No hell below us

Above us only sky

Imagine all the people

Living for today”

Sure this is extremely politically incorrect, but I’m not in politics, and it’s my opinions. I’m not trying to convert people to atheism, because I do believe there is some sort of spiritual existence beyond this physical one we thrive in now. I also am not trying to convert anyone at all, because I know how it feels for people around you to tell you that you will fail at life because of your beliefs. That’s what religious people tend to do. They feel they’re saving us from an afterlife of torture. Well, just because I feel I should save them from a Now-life of torture, doesn’t mean I’m going to nag them to stop going to church. It’s just as rude to tell me to go to church as it is for me to tell them to stop.

Now, although I’m posting this publicly, and I’m sure there are those who strongly disagree with everything I’m saying, I’m just saying that you don’t have to agree, nor read this.

I wasn’t always like this. I used to be Mormon. I just remember hating that I couldn’t see my friends on Sunday. I remember wanting to rather do hours of homework than go to church. At least one of them gave my mind something to do but wander and then drift to sleep. I hated listening to people giving testimonials about the moment that they found Jesus and God in their life, followed by bouts of crying. I hated knowing that no matter how hard I tried that I couldn’t find either of the two; no matter how hard I prayed, none of my prayers were answered.

I finally came to the conclusion that life is supposed to be enjoyed. Your religion should be something that completes your life, and makes you feel happy. Mine did not. Sure, I didn’t quit on religion entirely; I researched into other religions, but they all felt the same, and most of them you had to be born into. So, I went through life without religion, but not without faith. I had faith in my family. I had faith in my true friends. I had faith in the moments of complete genuine happiness that I encountered, even though I didn’t go to church. I also had faith in myself, and that I could still be happy and thrive without relying on some mythical creature. To me, it was as silly as relying on the Easter Bunny to make my life what I wanted to. Maybe if I prayed to the Easter Bunny, I will go to some sort of a paradise when I die. Sure, you’d say, well it’s obviously been proven that the Easter Bunny doesn’t exist. Well, I don’t know about you, but every Easter morning, there are colorful eggs distributed healthily around my backyard, and they didn’t get there by osmosis.

I also thought, why is it that polytheism is so ridiculous, and yet monotheism is not? To me, if you look at it, polytheism makes a lot more sense. It seems more possible that there is one god for every activity than one almighty magic man somehow doing everything at once. Logically it makes much more sense. Yet, we shun Zeus and Hera, saying they’re myths and legends. Well, to me God is just as mythical and ridiculous. He is just as invisible, and has more outlandish powers than the Greek and Roman gods, so why is it that He has more credibility than Apollo? Exactly.

So I am just going to go through life day by day. If some powerful spiritual being feels like introducing themselves to me one day and let me know that they’re the ones who gave us this gorgeous planet to exist on, and has the ability to prove it, then great, I’ll believe in a religion then. Until such time, I love life, and haven’t been struck by lightning yet, so I shall continue believing my blasphemous ideals.
